We are looking for an HR Director/HR Manager (depending on experience) to lead our HR team and our HR, People Development and Healthcare efforts. This is a full-time position on a permanent contract. This position is based in Brussels and will be based in the office at least three days per week.

The Human Resources Manager/Head of Human Resources reports to the Deputy Secretary-General. The Human Resources Manager leads the Human Resources team, which currently consists of a Senior Human Resources Officer and an Administrative Assistant.

As EEB's next HR Director, you will typically bring more than ⚠ years of relevant HR and people development experience, proven leadership experience, and a personal commitment to the work we do. Applicants with around ⚠ years of relevant experience are welcome to apply and may be offered a Human Resources Manager position, with the opportunity to develop into an HR leader role as they gain experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with the HR team to provide strategic guidance, develop policies and implement day-to-day HR, people development and benefits tasks
  • Being an active member of the EEB senior management team and collaborating across teams
  • Tracking legal developments and ensuring compliance with regulations applicable to HR in Belgian associations
  • Following best practices and innovations in human resources management
  • Overseeing the issuance of employment contracts and employee conditions
  • Responsible for monthly salary calculations and salary disbursements
  • Working with the HR team, team leaders and supervisors to coordinate the recruitment process and ensure recruitment practices that comply with legal requirements and our own standards and guidelines
  • Helping onboard new employees and improve onboarding practices
  • Making recommendations to ensure attractive working conditions, including through attractive pay policies, benefits packages and attractive EEB retention measures
  • Development, coordination and implementation of annual training plans and support of individual training measures and personal development
  • Coordinating and improving annual performance reviews and other feedback mechanisms
  • Conducting regular employee welfare surveys and proposing and implementing follow-up activities with the HR team and other teams
  • Leading the organization of annual staff retreats and supporting team retreats and team building activities
  • Recommending human relations practices necessary to maintain and develop positive employer-employee relationships
  • Actively collaborating with other EEB teams responsible for administrative and operational work (especially the Finance team, Office and IT teams and Secretary) and contributing to fundraising as appropriate as related to Human Resources and Staff Development

Qualifications:

  • Preferably ⚠+ years of HR and people development experience as an HR Director, or ⚠+ years as an HR Manager with the opportunity to develop the position over time
  • ⚠+ years preferred experience leading a diverse team in an international environment (HR Director) or ⚠ years of line management experience (HR Manager)
  • HR professional trained in Belgium and/or with extensive experience as an HR professional in Belgium, and extensive knowledge of Belgian labor law, social legislation and other applicable rules and regulations
  • Experience working in civil society, membership organizations or other goal-driven organizations is a great advantage
  • Proven experience of all formal HR tasks such as employment contracts and payroll
  • Experience of people development, training and wellbeing in an organization of our size, which have development opportunities and budgets compared to larger organizations more limited
  • Experience in communication between senior management and employee representatives and trade union delegations
  • Good spoken and written knowledge of English and French (although Dutch or other EU languages are an advantage)
  • Solid organizational skills, high motivation, solution-oriented, trustworthy and empathetic leader who is committed to creating an inclusive and diverse workplace
  • Interested in building and maintaining a healthy organizational culture as part of a larger team
  • Ensuring you are available at least three days working in the Global Recruitment office

  • Permanent contract for full-time positions (⚠% of positions are negotiable)
  • Monthly salary before tax starts from ⚠,⚠ euros for the Human Resources Manager and ⚠,⚠ euros for the Human Resources Manager, with higher starting salaries depending on the level of experience
