Job Description

The Hardware Operations team is tasked with maintaining the current physical infrastructure associated with Google's powerful search technology. As a member of the Data Center Operations team, you will oversee a team of Data Center Technicians. You will oversee the quality of the hardware and components used in the servers, and take charge of difficult installations/questionable behavior. Your team will install, configure, test, and maintain the hardware (like servers and their components) as well as the software used in the servers (like the Linux cluster of Google). Additionally, they will take on the task of configuring more intricate components, such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, and networking protocols. They may lead small teams on larger projects and create plans for contingency.

In this role, you will lead one or more teams in providing critical data center services (e.g., security of data, machine maintenance, networking), identify trends via data analysis at the project level, and drive the necessary changes to address them (e.g., improve tools, processes, or procedures). You will serve as the primary point of contact for data center issues that are quantifiable and will escalate when appropriate. You will collaborate with the partners (e.g., Program Managers, Data Center Operations) in order to provide input into short- and long-term plans, procedures, and task orders at the site. You'll direct projects from beginning to finish, with a budget and a timeline.

The Data Center team develops and operates some of the most advanced electrical and HVAC systems in the world. We are a diverse, positive, creative, and team-oriented group of scientists dedicated to constructing and operating effective data centers. Day-to-day supervision of the operation of data centers. Communicate the priorities and facilitate the transition from one lead to another. Work together to identify and resolve issues and propose solutions to our global design and networking issues. Control the flow of projects within the team. Make sure the data center-related priorities are in line with the company's goals.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field of technology, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Candidates will typically have five years of experience in the computing field, networking, operating systems, or hardware.
  • Candidates will typically have ⚠ years of experience leading technical teams, managing vendors or agreements, and delivering products.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Data center experience, including the creation and operation of large-scale infrastructure, and the administration of networks and computers, and the use of Linux and Unix.
  • Experience creating and executing initiatives that are strategic in nature.
  • Capacity to lead and participate in Environmental Health and Safety programs.
  • The capacity to travel between ⚠ and ⚠% of the time was necessary.
