Business Developer in Energy Efficiency Projects


On behalf of our client Watt Matters (a Belgian company specializing in the design, installation, financing and operation of energy power plants) we are looking for a business developer of energy efficiency projects, passionate about the energy transition and ready to contribute to the medium-term company's long-term goal of becoming a low-carbon society.

Location: Brussels

Watt Matters specializes in the planning, installation, financing and operation of power generation systems for residential and public buildings. Their technical solutions and services include the installation of boiler rooms and cogeneration units, heat pumps, photovoltaic systems, remote monitoring systems and building insulation. Watt Matters is committed to accelerating the energy transition and becoming a low-carbon society in the near future. It also has another goal: to contribute to a ⚠% reduction in emissions in Brussels through its activities and to become a key player in the energy transition market.

As a Business Developer for Energy Efficiency Projects, you will be part of a team of engineers and financial experts to jointly develop technical and financial solutions and actively contribute to the company's growth prospects for the coming years and its energy transition strategy to reduce CO⚠ emissions.

As a business developer of energy efficiency projects, your main task is to promote and sell various energy solutions for large buildings - energy systems and expertise, such as:

  • Large-scale combined heat and power, heating and waste heat systems
  • Photovoltaic projects
  • Heat pumps etc.

Mainly including the sales of turnkey projects and technical solutions and the provision of related installation services.

Your main tasks are as follows:

  1. Observe and understand the company structure, the technical solutions provided - energy systems and special technologies, customers and their needs and requirements.
  2. Work closely with support functions, project preparers, draftsmen, and project engineers to maximize business opportunities; assists with technical and commercial studies based on client needs.
  3. In turn, provide your colleagues with accurate and timely information to help them prepare quotes and proposals.
  4. Continuously upskill – expand and develop your expertise to meet the needs of your business and, most importantly, your clients.
  5. Working with brownfield and greenfield clients - receiving, identifying, analyzing and monitoring the commercial prospects for energy retrofits in large buildings, primarily in the service sector.
  6. Actively meet with your clients to build close and lasting relationships and become their single point of contact throughout the entire process.
  7. Build a solid business case - considering technical, engineering, specific project requirements and financial aspects - and defend your project to your client.
  8. Promote and sell your company's large-scale building energy solutions - cogeneration plants, heating and recovery systems, solar panels, heat pumps, remote monitoring systems, building insulation, and more.
  9. Ensure customer satisfaction and monitor all ongoing activities.
  10. Educate customers - Help them understand your company's products and services, how they can make the most of your products and services, and why it can add value to them.

Additionally, you'll need:

  • Project cost modeling and internal support
  • Develop and implement your annual sales plan
  • Monitor profits and ensure sales targets are met or exceeded
  • Contribute to the company's growth plans by developing approaches to enter new markets
  • Work closely with other key personnel and departments such as Proposal, Finance, Project Management and Sales to improve overall company performance
  • Also prepare analysis and performance reports in a timely and correct manner
  • Create monthly forecasts and summaries using CRM related tools
  • Create and negotiate agreements and contracts
  • Represent Watt Matters and act as the main point of contact for trade shows, conferences etc or debates
  • Organize and/or attend trade shows and marketing/sales seminars as needed
  • Participate in occasional evening meetings with clients

Relevant technical degree. Candidates with experience in the energy sector, renewables and/or procurement are preferred. Hunting and farming experience welcome. Demonstrated interest in current environmental issues. Good oral and written communication skills. Strong negotiation skills. Ability to manage a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Ability to listen, explain and persuade. Ability to develop a sound business model and defend it to all relevant stakeholders. Ability to understand the significance or impact of events and situations and respond appropriately. Ability to work independently and in teams. Proactive, organized, goal-oriented, proactive personality and can-do attitude, focused on business development and achieving results, able to work comfortably in a dynamic and changing environment, fluent in French; good knowledge of English; Welcome to learn Dutch.
