Balancing Market Manager

Within the Markets division, the Global Recruitment team is responsible for assessing changes in the market for balancing and voltage stabilization services, particularly in response to the growing importance of renewable energy and the integration of the European energy market. The System Services team is also responsible for sizing control reserves and developing recovery services to restore the grid after an outage.

As the Balanced Energy Market Manager, you will be involved in the development of Balanced Energy services. Your task is to design the market mechanisms related to these services - identify development needs, translate them into practical solutions (market and product design) and describe the operating rules of the services - taking into account the legal, operational, budgetary and tariff framework. They represent national interests in various international cooperation and ENTSO-E working groups.

Finally, as a liaison between local teams and international collaborations, you will contribute to the implementation of cross-border mechanisms. To this end, together with the Product Owner and in close cooperation with the relevant departments within Global Recruitment, changes to the compensation mechanisms related to European market integration and/or changes specifically targeted to the needs of the Belgian market are identified, analyzed and proposed (National Control Center, clients, legal, regulatory affairs, TDI, etc.). With the support of the affected teams, you will ensure the implementation of these changes is monitored at both contractual and operational levels.

They monitor and forecast changes in costs associated with relevant services and, where possible, develop recommendations to reduce costs (or limit cost increases). You maintain an overview and provide advice to your line management on technical or strategic directions. You will maintain regular contact with Global Recruitment's clients/suppliers (in consultation with their Key Account Manager) and relevant regulatory authorities to fully understand their needs and maximize the value of the services provided to them. They carry out public consultation and contract approval processes with relevant regulatory authorities.

You have a university degree (Master's or PhD), preferably in a technical subject. You have at least ⚠ years of experience in the energy sector. Your "systems" understanding of how the grid operates helps you quickly locate and understand various problems. Understanding how electricity markets work is an advantage. You are thorough and able to conduct in-depth analysis (technical and/or economic). You have excellent oral and written communication skills. These allow you to clearly interpret Global Recruitment and third party recommendations. When you represent Global Recruitment's proposals, you will be able to negotiate and persuade, taking care to build consensus among different stakeholders. You speak fluent English (written and spoken) as well as Dutch or French. You are organized, responsible and able to work independently. You are willing to take frequent short-term trips to Europe.
