The Technology department of NMBS is responsible for the maintenance and modernization of rolling stock and has 6,000 employees. Organically, this results in 12 workshops located in different parts of the country. The 9 workshops responsible for short-term maintenance (STM) are in charge of modernizing, maintaining, and repairing the 3 central workshops (CWM). In addition to its duties in public service, NMBS, in addition to its participation in freight transport, also participates in international passenger transport (mainly through its association with Thalys and Eurostar).

The high-speed train facility in Vorst maintains: the Thalys running between Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, and Cologne, the TGV running between Paris and Brussels, the Eurostar providing a connection between London and Paris, the TGV heading to a southern destination in France. This facility employs approximately 300 employees.

Would you like to be part of our technical teams that ensure safety and smooth train traffic daily? The electromechanical technician plays a key role in continuously improving the safety and consistency of rail transport. You will control and maintain rolling stock, locate and repair damage, and ensure strict compliance with safety regulations regarding train traffic and personnel.

What makes this position special to you? You should have: An accredited diploma (or equivalent) from higher education specializing in "industry", or a diploma or certificate of completion issued by higher secondary education that grants social rights after completing at least 750 hours of lessons, is considered equivalent to the aforementioned diploma, or a test that documents acquired qualifications in other areas related to mechanics (conventional and digital machining, assembly methods, industrial maintenance, CAD and Desk methods, installation, adjustment, and maintenance or repair of mechanical, pneumatic and/or hydraulic components). Alternatively, you must have at least two years of experience in the aforementioned mechanical field. The CVs of candidates holding a certificate documenting qualifications beyond the diploma or having two years of relevant experience in the field of mechanics or electricity must be reviewed first. Employees of the Belgian Railways are not required to submit this documentation, their CVs will not be evaluated, and they are exempt from this.

Technical skills

  • You can easily read drawings and plans.
  • You are familiar with the theoretical and practical principles of physics.

Strong points include: Understanding the principles of railway equipment, production experience in an industrial environment, familiarity with the French language. Experience or additional certifications in HVAC/Refrigeration are significant advantages.

  • You are autonomous and take initiative, especially when it comes to information.
  • You have a good relationship with workshop staff.
  • You can collaborate and work in teams.
  • You have good communication skills.
  • You rotate through different shifts during the week, at night, and on weekends.
  • You work in a small team indoors (workshop) or outdoors (on the tracks used), depending on where you need to work. You may need to perform urgent repairs.
